At the Winter Consumer Electronics Show Nintendo quietly sent out a press release on it's upcoming Super Nintendo CD-ROM drive. This announcement revealed, at leas! partially, what kind ot unit Nintendo is planning on bringing out.

Такие простейшие джойстики уже начали появляться в магазинах, и те кто отважился на эту покупку, могут уже сегодня действительно почувствовать разницу. Но технический прогресс никогда не стоит на месте. И уже в 1998 году в продажу должна поступить новая модель этого аксессуара, но теперь с дополнительным преимуществом - он сможет отвечать на ваши действия. Да, ответом вам пока будет только механическая вибрация, причем в самом обычном ее виде, но это уже больше чем ничего. Однако, никакой аксессуар не будет правильно работать, если разработчики игр не позаботятся в своих программах о его поддержке. Некоторые игры уже сегодня активно поддерживают аналоговую технологию. Но только одна из них будет специально создана под этот аксессуар, и имя ее Stunt RC Copter.

One of the biggest surprises at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show was Nintendo's announcement of some of the specifications for their upcoming Super Nintendo CD-ROM drive. Their press release stated that their unit would be in the stores as early as January 1993, and that it would sell for only about $200! Add in the fact that almost all of the specifications they published equalled or exceeded the ones for Sega's Mega CD-ROM, while the price was only about half of what Sega's unit was selling for at that time in Japan ($370).
After this announcement, Nintendo went back into seclusion and the editors started to pull together every possible detail available from all of it's World Net sources. This search, piloted by Mr. Michio Ohashi, Editor of The Super Famicom magazine in Japan, has turned up new information compiled from industry sources and analysts.

In order to allow game developers sufficient time to have new CD-ROM software available for the early 1994 launch of the Super NES CD-ROM peripheral, Nintendo of Japan wrapped up the development work on their Super NES ND (Nintendo Disc) Drive last December. EGM has been able to get the final specs and system configuration from Japan and this peripheral really looks hot!


The Super NES ND Drive (the official U.S. name hasn't been decided yet), when it comes out, will consist of three parts: the ND Drive, the ND System Cartridge and the CD-ROM AC Adapter. The ND Drive will be 9 1/2" deep, 7 7/8" wide and 2.9" thick (the same size as the Super NES) and it will weigh 2 lbs 7 02. The ND System Cart will contain the majority of the 'brains' and will plug into the cartridge slot of the Super NES. There will be a cord from the system cart to the ND Drive that will transfer data and/or power.

The war is about to begin!
After successfully invading Japan, we are about to witness the first wave of next generation gaming on these shores. Manufacturers are promising enhancements over the current field of systems (NES, SMS, 7800), with graphics, sounds, and play that is nothing less than incredible. But even before the American game playing public has had a chance to examine the potential of a new machine, there is already a flood of 16-Bit and portable units on the way and headed for store shelves this September!
The lines have been drawn and the heavy artillery is about to be revealed to the game playing public. Three gaming superpowers-NEC, Sega, and Nintendo - are flexing their muscles with a variety of products that have to be seen to be believed!
Both NEC and Sega are poised to enter a heated battle for control of the 16-Bit system sweepstakes! Both companies are well-equipped with machines that have plenty of firepower and great games to match...

Some games come out in Japan but never get converted to English, while others get released in the arcades, but never get translated to consoles. And some, like Sonic Crackers, get cancelled before they even make it out of production...
