Легендарная стратегия в реальном времени, одна из первых игр, которые заложили понятие “симулятора бога” ("the god game"). В игре вы берёте на себя роль Бога. Точно так же как в Black and White (Чёрное и Белое / Добро и Зло). Только наша игра вышла намного раньше. Вы берёте на себя управление поселенцами и должны их развивать. Строить дома, делать прирост населения и создавать воинов, вы ведь на карте не один и вам придётся воевать, и завоёвывать новые территории. Всё как мы и привыкли в современных стратегиях на PC. Игра породила несколько продолжений Populous 2, Populous: The Beginning и Populous 2: Two Tribes – для SMD. А так же множество клонов.
