Это больше аркадные гонки, нежели симулятор формулы 1. Есть три режима игры Super Monaco GP, World ChampionShip и Free Practice.
Режим Super Monaco GP представляет из себя аркадную игру с одним гран-при (Гран-При Монако). В этом режиме последний гонщик выбывает.
World ChampionShip – данный режим имитирует чемпионат мира по формуле1 1989 года. Цель чемпионата завоевать, а потом и защитить титул чемпиона мира Формулы 1. Игрок начинает с самых низов, ну почти с самых низов. Он начинает в слабой команде Minarae. После побед он продвигается по карьерной лестнице, вытисняет других гонщиков и меняет команды. Главным призом для игрока будет самый лучшей болид Madonna, который открывается после победы в сезоне. После полной победы в новом сезоне игрок получает вызов от нового гонщика G.Ceara, его почти невозможно победить в первых двух гонках, за счёт чего игрок падает виз и его задачей стаёт защитить титул, поднявшись с низов. Если это удастся сделать, то игра будет окончательно пройденной.
В игре шестнадцать трасс. Команды в игре основаны на командах сезона 1989-1990 годов. Одной из интересных особенностей игры является то, что можно повреждать болиды соперников и в щепки разбить собственный автомобиль.
Игра получила продолжение для SMD под названием Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II (Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP 2).

These are simulator of a formula 1. There are three modes of the game Super Monaco GP, World ChampionShip and Free Practice.
The Super Monaco GP mode is arcade game with one Grand Prix (Monaco Grand Prix). In this mode the last racer leaves.
World ChampionShip – this mode simulates the World Cup for формуле1 1989. The purpose of the championship to win, and then and to protect a title of the world champion of the Formula 1. The player begins with the bottoms. He begins in a weak team of Minarae. After victories he moves ahead on a career ladder, forces out other racers and changes teams. The main prize for the player will be Madonna best a race car which opens after a victory in a season. After a clear victory in a new season the player receives a call from the new racer of G.Ceara, he can't be won the first two races at the expense of what the player falls visas and his task стаёт to protect a title, having risen from bottoms. If it manages to be made, game will be finally passable.
In game sixteen routes. Teams in game are based on teams of a season of 1989-1990. One of interesting features of game is that it is possible to damage race cars of rivals and in to break own car.
Game received continuation for SMD under the name Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II (Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP 2).
