Это пинбол, первая и последняя игра серии Sonic the Hedgehog посвящённая этой теме. Доктор Роботник (Dr. Robotnik) в очередной раз захватывает Мобиус, он строит свою базу на вулкане и за счёт мощи магмы ускоряет процесс производства роботов из обитателей планеты. Соник узнаёт об этом и отправляется уничтожить логово зла. Но подобраться близко к самой базе у Соника не получается. И приходится идти через подземный ход через Ядовитые Пещеры (Toxic Caves). Тут то Сонику и предстоит выступить в виде шара для пинбола. Главной задачей на протяжении всех уровней будет освободить Кристаллы Хаоса. Для того чтобы вулкан начал извергаться и уничтожил базу Доктора Роботника.
Игра известна под такими названиями: Sonic 5, Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball.
