Front Mission 1St является первой частью серии тактических ролевых игр Front Mission. Несмотря на то, что это первая часть серии для Sony PlayStation, она вышла в 2003 году, это была последняя игра серии, вышедшей для первой Sony PlayStation, если конечно не брать в учёт переиздания предыдущих частей. Действия игры происходят на пока ещё вымышленном острове Хаффман (Huffman), который появился в результате вулканической активности. Сюжет игры завязан на противостоянии двух объединений OCU (Oceania Cooperative Union) и USN (United States of the New Continent). В начале игры у нас есть выбор, на чью сторону встать.
Как и почти во всех играх серии нам предстоит воевать на боевых роботах, известных так же как ванзеры. Их можно усовершенствовать, покупать новое оружие и аксессуары. Для этого нужны деньги, какие можно заработать либо в бою, либо в свободное время в Колизее. Колизей это такое место, где боевые роботы сражаются друг с другом один на один. Как и в большинстве РПГ боевые машины становятся лучше с получением опыта (поднятия левела / прокачкой).
Игра так же известна под названием Front Mission.
